چکیده

Many small-scale wireless networks, such as ad hoc networks, operate in a slotted mode with constant packet sizes. The transreceivers have only modest hardware and hence, queuing performance is an important issue. Performance analysis of slotted systems requires more than simply obtaining the performance figures of discrete-time Markov chains. This paper elucidates the importance of characterizing the timing and synchronization details required to correctly formulate the Markov chain and evaluates corresponding performance figures. Two distinct Markov chains are identified in such analysis of any slotted system. The events causing different transitions between the system states are systematically developed for both Markov chains. Relationships between time-averaged performance figures and corresponding expectations in both Markov chains are developed. The approach is demonstrated by providing easier solutions to some slotted systems found in the literature. Key-Words: Discrete-time queues, slotted networks, performance analysis, Markov chains, crossbar switch, timing and synchronization.

MODELLING AND ANALYSIS OF A DISCRETE-TIME PRIORITY QUEUING COMPUTER NETWORK WITH PRIORITY JUMPS USING PROBABILITY GENERATING FUNCTIONS

Priority queues have a great importance in the study of computer communication networks in which different types of traffic require different quality of service standards. The discrete-time non-preemptive priority queuing model with priority jumps is proposed in this paper. On the basis of probability generating functions mean system contents and mean queuing delay characteristics are obtained....

Longest Path in Networks of Queues in the Steady-State

Due to the importance of longest path analysis in networks of queues, we develop an analytical method for computing the steady-state distribution function of longest path in acyclic networks of queues. We assume the network consists of a number of queuing systems and each one has either one or infinite servers. The distribution function of service time is assumed to be exponential or Erlang. Fu...

Proposed ST-Slotted-CS-ALOHA Protocol for Time Saving and Collision Avoidance

Time Saving and energy consumption has become a vital issue that attracts the attention of researchers in Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSNs) fields. According to that, there is a strong need to improve MAC protocols performance in UWSNs, particularly enhancing the effectiveness of ALOHA Protocol. In this paper, a time-saving Aloha protocol with slotted carrier sense proposed which we c...

Analysis of discrete time queues via the reversed process

A class of discrete-time M=G=1 queues, including both round robin and last come rst served service, in which customers are subject to permutations is considered. These time slotted queues, analogous to the symmetric queues of Kelly, are analyzed by examination of the time reversed process. Product form stationary distributions are found for a type of doubly stochastic server of Schassberger [5]...

Connection-Wise End-to-End Delay Analysis in ATM Networks

A systematic method for connection-wise endto-end delay analysis in asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks is proposed. This method consists of the followings: (i) per-stream nodal analysis; (ii) output processes characterization; and (iii) moment matching scheme. Following our previous work [1], we employ H-MMPPs/Slotted D/1 to model ATM queues. Each virtual connection (VC) in ATM networks ...
